Request account deletion

Email [email protected] from the email address associated with your Aurora Beacon account and use the subject Delete my Aurora Beacon account.

If you signed in with Apple or Google and your account email is hidden or different from the address you are sending from, include enough information for us to identify the correct Aurora Beacon account. We may ask you to complete a reasonable verification step before an account is deleted.

What is deleted

When a verified account-deletion request is completed, Aurora Beacon will delete or de-identify account-linked personal data that is no longer required for a legal, security or operational reason. This is intended to include:

• your Aurora Beacon account and profile information;
• account-linked preferences and settings stored by Aurora Beacon;
• Observer Passport, achievement and reputation information linked to the account;
• push-notification tokens and account-linked alert preferences that are no longer needed;
• Community observations and contribution records linked to your account, subject to the limited retention described below; and
• other account-linked application data that does not need to be retained.

What may be retained

Some limited records may need to be retained after account deletion where they are required for legal, accounting, tax, fraud-prevention, security, dispute-resolution or regulatory purposes. These may include:

• subscription or transaction references needed for purchase history, accounting, tax or dispute handling;
• security and abuse-prevention records where retention is reasonably necessary to protect Aurora Beacon and its users;
• a limited record of the deletion request and the steps taken to fulfil it; and
• temporary backup copies until they are removed through normal backup rotation.

Retained information is kept only for the period required for the relevant legal, security or operational purpose and is not kept simply to continue using a deleted account.

Community photos and social-media consent

If you have uploaded Community observations, account-linked Aurora Beacon contribution data will be handled as part of the deletion request, subject to the limited retention described above.

If you separately allowed a Community contribution to be reused on Aurora Beacon social-media channels, you can also withdraw that permission for future use by emailing [email protected]. Copies already published to a third-party social-media service may also be subject to that service's own systems, shares, caches or retention.

Delete some data without deleting your account

You do not have to delete your whole account to request deletion of specific personal data. Aurora Beacon provides controls for deleting your own Community observations where available in the app. You can also email [email protected] to request deletion of specific personal information while keeping your account.

Subscriptions

Deleting your Aurora Beacon account does not automatically cancel an App Store or Google Play subscription. Subscription cancellation is managed through Apple or Google. If you have an active subscription and do not want it to renew, cancel it through the relevant store.

How long deletion takes

We will begin processing a verified deletion request without undue delay. Some information may remain in backups or legally required records for a limited period as described above. If we need more information to identify or verify the account, the deletion process may depend on receiving that information from you.
